Dance

The Dance Program is designed for to channel their energies into learning dance technique while benefiting from the sheer joy of dancing. The athletic, rhythmical, and musical elements of dance receive equal emphasis. Each student is evaluated to determine his or her proper class level.
Classes
Classes are offered in a variety of dance forms and taught at the level of the students enrolled. Lesson times are sixty (60) minutes. There is one recital opportunity at the end of each fall, summer and spring session. Classes offered include:
- Creative Movement and Creative Dance classes for age’s three to twelve use movement ideas, imagery, and music to explore space, rhythm, dynamics, and energy. These classes develop movement coordination and nurture the individuality and uniqueness inherent in all children before they study established technique and style.
- African Dance class seeks to expose our young dancers to the vibrant fun of African dance. Students will explore rhythm & time while learning about communication between the drum and dance. With songs and stories shared, this class is an enchanting look at the origins and meaning of African dance.
- Pre-Ballet, Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Modern classes emphasize alignment, strength, flexibility, performance, and body/breath awareness within specific movement vocabulary.
- Ballroom (swing, fox trot, waltz, polka) and Latin (salsa, merengue, cha cha, cumbia, tango) provides basic steps needed for dancing in any social setting.
- Hip Hop introduces the “moves” of the latest street dance.
- Praise & Worship classes teach worship through dance to children and adults.
Attire
Shorts, bodysuits or leotards with no shoes or socks are required for Creative/Movement dance classes. Any color leotard, tights, and ballet shoes are required for the Ballet classes. Jazz or tennis shoes are needed for the jazz classes and tap shoes are needed for the tap classes. Information about shoes for other classes will be provided the first day of class.
