Drama Program

 

 

The Drama Program offers an exciting opportunity for a student’s imagination to take off and fly. Students receive the technical training they need to bring their ideas to life on stage. Emphasis is placed upon the development of skills that help students build trust and focus their creative energies.

 

Classes

Classes are designed for beginning actors as well as those with performing experience and give students a variety of experiences needed for acquiring real skills for the real world. Class times are sixty (60) minutes.  There is one recital opportunity at the end of each fall, summer and spring session. Classes offered include:

 

  • Little Actors Ensemble classes for students ages 5-8 to fully explore opening up their imaginations, performing for their peers, and using their bodies and voices to give expression to the unique creative spark within each of them.  Puppets, masks, costumes, props and music are used to further explore the artistic process. 

 

  • Young Actors Ensemble classes for students ages 9 – Up dedicated to immersing young actors in the foundation of character development and relationships in a vigorous and challenging environment. It will encourage them to find their authentic self from which their artistic work should originate and it will instill confidence in their performances on stage. 

 

  • Theater Games and Improvisation is an introduction to acting skills through theater games, story dramatization, improvisation, and movement. Emphasis is placed on developing the actor’s imagination. This class is appropriate for children ages 5-8.

 

  • Introduction to Acting classes covers fundamentals of character development through identifying objectives, obstacles, and tactics as you study scenes. Emphasis is placed on developing your listening, interacting and reacting skills while you work with your scene partners.  

 

  • Camera Acting I class Specialized techniques of acting for the camera

 

  • Scene Study Workshop allows students to work on character development, transitions, motivation and listening.

 

  • Introduction to Television Commercials is designed to help in all aspects of making television commercials.

 

  • Television Workshop teaches all the aspects of Television commercial work. Throughout each class students are videotaped as they rehearse a wide variety of commercial copy.

 

  • Improvisation I teaches a systematic approach to improvisation how to create and build characters through improvisation and concentrates on scene work.

 

  • Improvisation II is an intensive workout in improvisation, concentrating on writing and the creation of character monologues and scenes.  

 

  • Voice-Over trains students for a spokesperson, narrator and character roles. Students will learn about Houston and/or Dallas market, the audition, the job, the follow-up, self promotion, the unions and agents.

 

  • Audition Techniques class prepares students for auditions.
