Visual Arts Program
The Visual Arts Program provides a solid foundation for beginner students and exploratory avenues in the visual arts field for more advanced students.
Classes
Classes are taught at the level of the students enrolled. Lesson times are sixty (60) minutes. There is an opportunity at the end of each fall, summer and spring session for students to showcase their work.
Classes offered include:
Art Discovery teaches children ages 5-8 to develop their creativity and explore their imaginations as they survey a variety of art-making techniques. Classes will focus on the basics of art including drawing, painting, and sculpture.
Wearable Art teaches about clothing, costume, masks, and jewelry from around the world. Students will Design their own wearable art pieces while learning such techniques as dyeing, sewing, and beadwork.
Photography includes instruction and practice in camera handling, films, filters, lenses and composition. Student must have their own manual 35mm film camera or manual digital camera.
Ceramics students work on independent projects (pottery wheel or hand building).
Color and Composition class is designed for those with little or no art background and is an excellent introduction to beginning painting. Students work with color theory, color relationships, color mixing, and then move into learning the basics of composition.
Drawing for Beginners teaches elements of drawing by working in charcoal, pencil and ink wash. The course focuses on quick work, developing the ability to look at a three dimensional object and put it down on paper, with an emphasis on composition, line and value studies. Students work directly from live model and still life to improve their skills. Instructor gives careful guidance, slide lectures and individual attention. No previous experience necessary. No nude models will be used. Students furnish supplies.
Oil Painting teaches the fundamentals of oil painting. Class stresses color and composition and offers individual attention in an informal environment. Students furnish supplies.
Painting: All Media is designed for intermediate and advanced students. Students will work in the media of their choice on a series. Studio work will focus on still life. Outdoor locations will be considered as time and weather permits. Students furnish supplies.
Printmaking teaches the basics of printmaking and create your own original prints using the techniques of drypoint, monotype, and chine collé. Students purchase supplies in class.
Sculpture explores traditional and contemporary sculpture materials and processes. Emphasis is on both additive and subtractive methods of working. Goals include acquiring technical skills, understanding the physical and expressive possibilities of diverse materials, and learning safe, appropriate use of tools and materials.
Computer Graphics teaches basic communicative activities, free and complex drawing in various computer software.
